The Annual Awards Ceremony of Ìýthe ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ was conducted on the 28th of December 2018 under the patronage of the Chancellor of the University, Vidya Jyothi Professor Emeritus KKYW Perera and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. KKCK Perera.Ìý
Professor Kemal Deen, a consultant surgeon, an administrator Ìýand an academic who was the founder of the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya was invited as Ìýthe Chief Guest and he delivered the guest speech on "Factors that Make a Good Researcher".
³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ staff and students of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ were appreciated with 178 awards at this ceremony. The categories of awards and the number of recipients for each category are as follows;
•ÌýÌý ÌýAppreciation of outstanding research performance by academic staff - 88 Awards
•ÌýÌý ÌýAcknowledging student excellence - 67 Awards Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý
•ÌýÌý ÌýRecognition of international and national awards received by staff and students - 23 Awards
The university has long recognized that the academic staff and students benefit from research and that it enriches the learning process beyond the class room. Accordingly, the university strives to motivate researchers to engage in research and related studies. The university has Ìýalready established Ìýresearch units Ìýfor all Ìý Faculties Ìýwith Ìýthe Ìýobjective Ìýof Ìýdisseminating Ìýknowledge Ìýgained Ìýthrough Ìýresearch Ìýand to promote Ìýresearch Ìýamong Ìýfaculty Ìýmembers Ìýand Ìýstudents. Research carried out so far has been instrumental in uplifting the image of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ as a leading research institute in the South Asian region. In appreciation of their good work 88 academic staff received awards for research performance.
In acknowledging student excellence, the Grade Point Average (GPA) obtained at the semester examinations were considered. Fifty eight (58) students were appreciated and were awarded a certificate and a cash award.
The University always encourages Ìýacademics and Ìýstudents Ìýto participate in Ìýboth Ìýinternational Ìýand national Ìýlevel Ìýcompetitions by officially recognizing their unique Ìýachievements in the fields of education, innovation, research and publications. Accordingly, four academic staff members and ten Ìýstudents were recognized Ìýat the Annual Award Ceremony Ìýthis year for the National and International Awards they had received.
